Residential Solar Hot-Water Heating

Benefits of an in-home system:
renewable energy with the fastest payback
reduce annual hot-water costs by 40-50%
provide you with 1500-3000 kWh of energy/year
eliminate up to 2 tonnes of CO2 emissions/year

The energy you can expect to save by adding a solar hot-water heater to your current system depends on:
the size of the collectors and storage tank
the appliance’s efficiency
the amount of sunlight in your region
most important - the amount of water you use

By installing a solar water heater
you CAN make a difference!

Most solar water heaters consist of:
solar collectors mounted on the roof of a house
a pump for circulating the heat transfer fluid
a heat exchanger to transfer the heat to storage
one or two storage tanks for storing solar-heated water for periods when there is no sun

Commerical Installation

Commercial Solar Energy Systems

Commerical solar hot-water heaters provide an even faster payback than residential installations due to their ability to offset larger fuel consumption and resulting expenses in addition to their potential government incentive packages. See SolarBC and National Resources Canada for further information on incentive packages for commercial solar installations.

The first step toward any commercial project is a feasibility study, which a RETscreen Analysis will provide. This will indicate an accurate estimate of the savings in fuel useage in relation to the projected reductions of carbon emissions that your system will provide.

Larger systems will require a consult with our engineer for design efficiency.

Eco-Friendly Plumbing

Eco-friendly plumbing looks to reduce water usage and increase water efficiency; this saves money.

Reducing and redirecting used or grey water are excellent ways of doing this.

Examples include:
collecting and filtering used water from faucets, dishwashers, and washing machines and then recycling it as non-potable (non-drinking) water.
watering indoor and outdoor plants as well as redirecting used water to flush toilets reduces waste in one's sewage system and one's need for potable water.
installing a low-flow showerhead, toilet, and faucet aerator, which can actually reduce one's water usage by up to 50%.

This reduction and redirection of water then reduces the amount of water that needs heating and further reduces the energy required by your hot-water heater by up to another 50%!

The G.E.T. Solar 10-Step Residential Installation Process

1. Contact our qualified installer to discuss and determine the best system to meet your specific needs. We offer several systems to consider.

2. Determine a suitable location for your solar system: a south facing roof is most beneficial for average annual energy collection and ultimate performance efficiency.

3. Get a Quote from our installer based on the system you have chosen.

4. Complete a Solar B.C. Installation Agreement and recieve your Solar BC grant at the point of sale. Then determine an appropriate installation date and schedule.

5. Have your installer obtain a plumbing permit.

6. Obtain financing if necessary by by applying for your "Green Loan" through either TD Canada Trust or VanCity, or determine and establish your own source of financing. See http://www.solarbc.ca/learn/incentives-costs for more information.

7. Pay a pre-determined installation deposit to your installer who can then purchase your solar and plumbing products.

8. Installer ensures that your installation is passed as required by a plumbing inspector.

9. Sign off the installation agreement when the job has been completed to your satisfaction and pay your outstanding balance to our installer.

10. Enjoy the efficiency and cost effectiveness of your new solar system!
